Clinical Research workshop

  • Mission Statement

    Clinical Research has been in the forefront of emergency medicine from inception as a specialty. Our goal is to create an interest and passion for clinical research among the emergency medicine faculty and residents globally along with providing the skills necessary to conduct quality research aimed at improving health, capacity development and development of evidence based interventions.

  • Course Description

    We will be conducting both didactic and interactive sessions during the one day preconference workshop. The breadth of the workshop faculty is vast comprising of renowned researchers from USA and India, each faculty member will highlight a different aspect of clinical research. There will be opportunity to network and connect with peers, exchange ideas and plan future collaborations. We will also incorporate local emergency medicine researchers in the faculty to get a local perspective.

    The Learning Objectives
    • Educating participants about the principles of good clinical trial design and providing the necessary tools required to conduct trials that are relevant in developing countries and the vulnerable population.
    • Guiding participants to identify various challenges of clinical research, particularly related to ethics in the vulnerable populations, and providing advice and education on how to overcome these challenges
    • Providing ongoing mentorship to young minority investigators through career-long relationships with workshop faculty.
      Workshop Components:
    • Didactic Lectures: The didactic lectures will be presented by expert faculty and will address various aspects of clinical research including Biostatistics, development and conduct of clinical trials, ethical, administrative and regulatory issues, and specific challenges of conducting clinical investigations in developing countries and issues related to international collaborations.
    • Small Breakout Sessions: In the small breakout sessions, each group will have up to four members with one faculty facilitator. These sessions will allow time for specific discussion on individual proposals.
    • One-on-One Sessions: These sessions will aim to provide specific advice to participants when they meet individually with the workshop faculty.
