ACEM 2019

The scientific committee of ACEM 2019 is pleased to announce the International Emergency Medicine SimWars during ACEM at Delhi in November 2019.

About SimWars

SimWars is a simulation-based competition between teams of clinical providers that compete in various aspects of patient care in front of a large audience. SimWars also offers learning opportunities for both those participating as well as those watching it. By the end of this experience both participants and observers will be able to analyze decision-making principles; appraise the fundamentals of crisis-resource management, and compare and contrast practice variations between institutions. SimWars combines a group-learning format with individual skill assessment to enhance global knowledge and skill performance. SimWars has gained popularity in various international emergency medicine conferences as a medium to promote friendly competition amongst Emergency Medicine training programs.

Eligibility Criteria for the SimWars

  • There will be a maximum of 12 teams to compete in ACEM 2019 SimWars.
  • Teams from academic Emergency Medicine departments having a structured 3 / 4-year EM training program can participate.
  • Each team will consist of four emergency medicine residents/trainees, one each from Year 1, Year 2 & Year 3. The teams are free to select the fourth participant from any training year of the 3 or 4 -year program.
  • Faculty members or any other practicing physicians are not eligible to participate in the team.


  • The teams for the ACEM SimWars will be selected on a first come first serve basis.
  • Submissions for the teams are open now and will close on 10th Sept 2019 at 12 PM IST. The nomination forms can be submitted here
  • Selected teams will be notified by email on or before 5th Sept 2019.
  • All the members of the teams must register and pay the conference fees for the ACEM 2019 to participate in SimWars competition. Link:
  • All the participating teams must register for the SimWars competition by making a payment of $100 US dollars in addition to the conference fees at the ACEM registration portal before 10th Sept 2019.
  • During the SimWars, the members of the teams will not have any access to mobile phones, books, or any other electronic devices.
  • Teams are free to assign the roles to each participant during the scenario, although the roles of the facilitators (i.e., Confederate participant, standardized nurse/EMT) will be disclosed to the teams just before the start of the scenario.
  • Each team will be provided with two standard facilitators (nurses/ EMT’s) during the scenario
  • The language for communication during the SimWars is only English.
  • During the qualifier round of the competition (on 9th November), each team will participate in a 10-minute simulated scenario.
  • The performance of the teams for the scenario is judged by the expert simulation faculty and will be scored accordingly for team dynamics, communication, leadership, decision-making skills, and core EM knowledge.
  • Top three teams from the qualifier round will compete in the finals on 9th Nov 2019 and will vie with each other for the ACEM SimWars Champions position and prize.

N.B: In case there is any change in the rules; the same will be intimated to the teams before the SimWars. The decision of the Scientific Committee of ACEM 2019 will be final to select the 12 teams for this competition.
